Help Your Patio Survive the Winter Months
Six steps to protect patio furniture and finishes from frozen rain, snow, and hail before the first storm hits.
Our patios are our pride in the warm months of the year - but what protects our outdoor spaces from frozen rain, snow, and hail? Six steps to take before winter arrives:
- Clean and dry every piece first, and remove dirt stains - trapped moisture invites mold. Remove rust from metal pieces with a wire brush.
- Spray a protective coating on all pieces to keep your furniture looking just like new.
- Move fragile items indoors to prevent cracks.
- Separate the cushions from the seats and cover every piece with waterproof covers - weighted down or cinched with elastic or drawstrings, because a 20 mph wind will take them.
- Bring the cushions indoors. If you have the space, bring the furniture in too - stacking the chairs saves room.
- If your patio sits on or at the bottom of a slope, create a barrier that keeps mulch and other material from washing into the area.
