Step Up Your Curb Appeal
Four weekend tasks - walkways, paint, garden, and porch decor - that keep your home the best-looking one on the block.
Everyone wants the house on the block that people love to look at. Here are four easy tasks to step up your home's curb appeal.
1. Sidewalk and driveway
Sweep leaves and debris from walkways regularly. For stuck-on dirt or stains, use a power washer, and use a good weed-control spray to get between cracks. Done on a regular basis, this keeps your curb appeal in tiptop shape.
2. Paint
Keep your home's outer paint fresh, starting with the frame of the door and the shutters. When it comes time to paint the house, do it all at once - paint fades over time, so waiting months between painting each side will cause discoloration.
3. Garden
If you have a garden, keep up with it. Water the plants, pull anything that has died along with any weeds, and maintain the mulch or soil.
4. Decor
If you have a front or back porch, make it fun and welcoming. Add pillows or cushions to chairs and benches, keep it swept clean, and decorate seasonally with wreaths and flowers.
Keeping up curb appeal does not require a lot of money. Be creative, have fun with decorating, and maintain the sidewalks, garden, and driveway each weekend to prevent a buildup of debris and weeds.
